Tips for flyers, bases and backspots to do a solid tic toc:

FOR FLYERS:
  • Replace your first foot, don’t step to the side. This way, your bases will know where you’re stepping every time.
  • Stand tall and lift up. Hesitation and bent knees will make the stunt more likely to fall.
  • Wait to feel the pop before you begin switching feet. Too early will mean your bases may not have loosened their grip yet and too late will mean less time to get your other foot down.
  • Avoid stomping down. Try to remain as light as possible and keep pulling up the entire time.
  • Prepare for a slight dip as your bases catch your second foot. It won’t feel the same as the floor where you switch feet onto a hard, solid surface.
FOR BASES & BACKSPOTS:
  • Dip by bending your knees, not by bending your elbows or changing your shoulder position.
  • Try to keep your elbows locked and shoulders extended (if in extension) upon catching the second foot. This is a stronger position than relaxing your body and letting your arms bend.
  • Pay attention to your flyer’s hip position and weight distribution in their foot prior to the switch. This will tell you if they’re going to go sideways, stand on their heel and lean back, etc.
  • Backspots, pull up on your flyer’s leg before the switch to help with the pop.
