Here are 4 tips for flyers learning double downs:

RIDE IT TO THE TOP

In a full down, you might be able to get away with not riding the cradle all the way to the top, but for double downs, it’s more important. Since you want as much time as possible to spin, you need to ride the cradle all the way up before pulling in for the twist. This will also make it look a lot prettier!

PULL IN QUICKER

The quicker you pull in to initiate the twist, the faster you’ll spin (if you stay tight). Quicker does not mean earlier though! Those are 2 different things. Wait to ride the cradle, then initiate the twist quicker than you would for a full down.

SQUEEZE TIGHTER LONGER

Since you want to maintain your spinning speed and make it all the way around in the rotations, ensure you’re continuing to squeeze throughout both rotations. In a full down, you can be more loose and open up earlier without many problems, but double downs require you to stay tighter longer.

PRACTICE DOUBLE TWISTS ELSEWHERE

Practice jump 1.5 twists and jump double twists on the floor to get used to rotating more than once and practice keeping your feet together, understanding where you are in space, etc. Doing double downs on a trampoline can help as well.
